Terms of Use
This is a draft Terms of Use with placeholders. It has not been legally reviewed. Do not open public sign-up until the operator has provided all required details and obtained legal advice.
1. About this service
Our Town Our Skills ("the service", "we", "us") is a cash-free, points-based skill exchange operated by [LEGAL_ENTITY_OR_PERSON_NAME — to be supplied] for adults living within five miles of Frome town centre, Somerset, UK. The service allows verified members to offer skills, request help, and exchange community points. Points have no monetary value.
2. Eligibility
You must be 18 years or older to use this service. You must live within a five-mile radius of Frome town centre, as measured from the validated postcode centroid of Frome Town Hall (BA11 1EB). You must complete email verification and residency verification before accessing the marketplace. We reserve the right to suspend or remove access if eligibility cannot be confirmed.
3. The points system
Points are an internal record of community help given and received. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought or sold, cannot be transferred to other members, and cannot be withdrawn. New verified members receive a one-time starter grant of 10 points. Only administrators can adjust the catalogue of skills and point rates.
4. Permitted and prohibited services
Certain service categories are disabled for safety and legal reasons, including but not limited to: childcare and unsupervised contact with children; care of vulnerable adults; regulated healthcare; counselling and therapy; legal and tax advice; gas work; electrical installations; structural building work; and roofing or working at height. See our Community Rules and Safeguarding Policy for the full list. You must not offer or request any prohibited service through the platform.
5. Member conduct
You agree to treat other members with respect, to act honestly in all exchanges, and to follow the Community Rules and Safeguarding Policy. You must not harass, threaten, or deceive other members, nor use the service for any unlawful purpose. You must not share another member's private information.
6. Booking, cancellation, and disputes
When an exchange is accepted, the requesting member's points are reserved. Either party may cancel before completion, in which case reserved points are returned. If parties disagree about completion, the held points are frozen and a dispute is created for administrator review. The administrator's decision is final and recorded with a reason.
7. Suspension and account closure
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms, the Community Rules, or applicable law. Suspended members lose access to the marketplace. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Transaction and audit records that we are legally required to retain will be kept.
8. Platform limitations
The service facilitates connections between members but does not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of any exchange. We are not a party to any agreement between members. You are responsible for assessing whether a skill is suitable and safe for your needs. Always use qualified professionals for safety-critical work.
9. Complaints and jurisdiction
Complaints can be submitted through our Complaints page. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. [RELEVANT_ICO_DETAILS — to be supplied] is the supervisory authority for data protection matters.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified to members, and continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. The current version is 1.0, effective [EFFECTIVE_DATE — to be supplied].
