Code of Conduct
Our shared commitments to keeping Our Town Our Skills friendly, fair, and safe for everyone.
By joining Our Town Our Skills, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct. It applies to every swap post, project, message, and interaction on the platform. Version 1.0.
1. Be respectful and inclusive
Treat every member with courtesy and kindness. No harassment, discrimination, threats, bullying, or pressure of any kind. We welcome people of all ages (18+), backgrounds, and abilities.
2. Be honest about your skills
Give truthful descriptions of what you can do, your experience level, your availability, and any relevant qualifications. Do not claim skills or credentials you do not have. If you are learning, say so — that is welcome too.
3. Agree before you act
Agree the exact tasks, hours, materials, location, and timing before starting any work. Use the in-site proposal system — not WhatsApp, text, or email. Never pressure someone to do extra work beyond what was agreed.
4. Follow safety guidelines
Do not attempt restricted or regulated work (electrical, gas, structural, childcare, healthcare, etc.) through this platform. Meet in public for first exchanges. Tell someone where you are going. Do not share banking details or passwords.
5. Respect privacy
Do not post another person's address, documents, photos, or messages without their permission. Do not share private conversations outside the platform. Your home address is never shown to other members — keep it that way.
6. Keep it on the platform
All proposals, acceptances, cancellations, and dispute records must happen inside Our Town Our Skills. This protects both you and the other member if anything goes wrong.
7. No money, no exploitation
No cash requests, off-platform payment offers, buying or selling points, or exploitative swaps. Points are a fair comparison measure for balancing a swap — they are not money and cannot be transferred, withdrawn, or traded.
8. Communicate promptly
Respond to messages and proposals in a reasonable time. Arrive on time for agreed exchanges, or cancel in advance where possible. If something changes, let the other person know.
9. Use the safety tools
If you experience or witness concerning behaviour, use the Report and Block controls. Reports are private and go to the administrators. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999.
10. Consequences
Repeated or serious breaches of this Code can lead to warnings, suspension, or removal from Our Town Our Skills after fair review. All moderation actions are logged and can be appealed.
This Code of Conduct is part of every swap agreement. When you accept a swap, you are also confirming that you have read and agree to the current version of this Code. If the Code changes, you will be asked to re-accept before posting or swapping again.
